After a little hiatus, we’re back with a new episode of The Osteo Connection!
Over the last several weeks we’ve been busy teaching another live round of our MBO program.
The beauty of the MBO is that it’s a deep dive into self-reflection to understand why you are where you’re at in practice, then we incorporate simple systems, steps and support to get to where you want to go. It’s been an incredible experience meeting new students, walking them through the process and seeing them hit their goals and make the impact they want in their business.
Tune in to this week’s episode as we reflect on the experience so far!

Have you ever stopped to think about what energy you are bringing into your practice?
This week we talk about how branding is your key to authentically defining and positioning yourself and your clinic to become a magnet for your most desired clients.

As an Osteopath, we evaluate our clients and take baseline parameters. Why? So we can demonstrate the effectiveness of our treatment/care plan and have objective measures for both you the therapist and your client.
Why would it be any different in running a successful practice? When was the last time you checked your numbers?
Catch this week's episode to learn why knowing your numbers sets you up for business success and confidence in the growth of your practice.

Integration 2023 will bring together, for the first time, Canadian Osteopathic Manual Practitioners who are experts in their field. Join us for a variety of content including informative plenary sessions, practice enhancement opportunities, hands-on sessions, and the opportunity to build community through their social event.

Kevin, Jason, and Sean are the creators of the MBO - Masters in Business for Osteopaths providing Advanced Mentorship for Osteopaths that bridges the gap between clinical education and real-world business success.
We all graduate as osteopaths and do the same thing. We take continuing education courses thinking that once we learn the next new technique we will have a successful practice. The reality is that this doesn’t work. In our combined 60 years of clinical experience, we have consistently found that what makes a successful practice is communication. The investment in building relationships with ourselves, our patients, and our communities results in the most successful practices. Join us to tap into the fundamentals of becoming a connected practitioner.

It’s so important to have a consistent routine so that you take charge of your day and aren’t just reacting to the events and external factors that come up throughout the day. As well as having a routine to reset and rebalance your energy between clients so that you enter every session prepared and ready to give your patient all the energy they deserve and to ensure that you show up as the best version of yourself.
In this episode, we sit down with Jacob Simonini, Osteopath and Integration 2023 Keynote Speaker. Jacob is incredibly passionate about osteopathy and shares about his 4:30 am wake-ups and what he does in his routine to be a better person for his family and his clients.
ABOUT JACOB
Jacob is an Osteopath whose career began as an Advanced Care Paramedic with many other focuses in the medical field. Jacob was a clinical instructor in the Advanced Care Paramedic program, a preceptor for Advanced Care Paramedic students, and studied and researched alongside a team of physicians involved in prehospital trauma and cardiac arrest examination. Looking for a new challenge and a more in-depth understanding of human bodies, Jacob began his osteopathic career at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy (CAO). Later, Jacob received a Master of Osteopathic Manual Science (MOMSc) and pursued a professional position as a member of the Ontario Osteopathic Association (OOA). Jacob betters his patients to the utmost ability using osteopathic skills and reasoning. The central idea Osteopathy teaches and what Jacob tries to preach and apply during treatments is that the practice seeks to free the natural healing capabilities of the body.
Moreover, each treatment Jacob gives is tailored to every individual and the condition of their body. Due to the inability to truly identify the human body’s unique capabilities and never-ending true potential, Jacob continuously pursues the study of Osteopathy with the utmost diligence and dedication to challenging himself, knowing the answer to the body’s authentic potential will never be discovered. In doing so, Jacob pushes his limits and aspires to follow Marcus Aurelius’ noble words: “It takes courage to practice something that can never be mastered”

The concept of these 3 E’s is something we have spoken about on our podcast before. When you have a new client enter your treatment room, this is your time to shine! This is where you make them feel like they have come to the right place to resolve their issue and make them wonder how they ever went to another therapist before that didn’t follow the 3 E’s philosophy.
ENGAGE with your client by making a strong initial impression and by forming a genuine connection with them.
EDUCATE your client. Not only is this more fun, but your results will also be much better! Who wants to treat someone who just wants to lie there and says “fix me?".
By making a strong connection with your client, and by educating them on their current status and how you plan on restoring their health together as a team, you are EMPOWERING them!

93% of communication is nonverbal.
Both a blessing and a curse of our trade is that we tend to observe how people move, hold themselves, and speak all the time, even outside of our offices. All these cues are keys to getting a good reading of where a person is at, how they’re living, and what they’re currently going through.
In today’s episode, we share how you can use these non-verbal cues to create a tailored treatment plan for your patients.

ABOUT DARRYL
Darryl was first introduced to osteopathy by several of his teachers while studying Athletic Therapy at Sheridan College. He was fascinated with the concept of using the hands, without the aid of therapeutic machines, to treat the various tissues within the body in order to promote health.
After graduating as a Certified Athletic Therapist in 2005, Darryl worked at various clinics before enrolling at the Canadian College of Osteopathy in Toronto in 2012. Around the same time, he was working as the Assistant Athletic Therapist at Seneca College. During this time, he was able to help varsity athletes get better by supplementing his treatments with osteopathic techniques. In the private sector treating the general public, he also noted that the general public also got better when they received some type of osteopathic techniques.
Darryl enjoys playing many types of sports, but he has a great love for hockey, darts, and especially golf. He hopes one day to golf at the Masters (a guy can dream), but for now, he will settle for a round just about anywhere.

Two people in the same circumstance or situation can have very different experiences and reactions based on their overall outlook and mindset. Our energy and our attitude going into any situation can have a great influence on the outcome.
In today’s episode, we discuss how the way we think on a daily basis greatly influences the quality of life that we're living, the experiences we have, what we feel and how we communicate with others in our lives.

As osteopaths, we are also aware that various internal and external forces that we have, directly influence our ability to provide a fulcrum where we can achieve a balance point & still point in our clients.
This is why it is imperative as osteopaths to work on improving our mindset. The faster and longer we can be in the proper mindset as we are treating plays a fundamental role in creating the proper environment for our clients to heal and ultimately achieve their desired treatment outcomes.

How you spend your time and who you spend your time with, whether it's in your practice or in your personal life has a big impact on your life. When you consciously choose to plan and create your day-to-day life and environment, the right people, places and opportunities will start to present themselves and there will be less time and space for crisis and turmoil to creep their way into your life.
You can start building your greatness muscle by doing small acts like making your bed every day or adding something to your morning routine. This helps to set a sense of willpower in things you don’t want to do or may not have thought you could do and begins to help direct your energy toward manifesting what you want in this life.
So, what is greatness for you? What are the elements you think are essential to push you towards the greater version of yourself?

Having a waitlist practice means that you always have a list of patients or clients that can get into your schedule in times when you have unforeseen circumstances like a last-minute cancellation.
Whether you are scaling your business or bringing on new practitioners, there’s always room to bring in new clients. Even after building our practices to the level we have, we still welcome new clients because it’s fun and refreshing.
Over the years we’ve developed the Waiting List Formula in order to keep a full schedule, but also have room to take on those new clients.
So, what exactly is the Wait List Formula?
New Clients plus Retention to the power of Referrals = A Waiting List Practice.
Tune in to this episode as we break this down for you and share some tips on how you can start building your waitlist practice.

Everyone has their own fears about their visions of where they'd like to go in their practice and it’s been interesting to see what holds people back. It's human nature to stay in your comfort zone and not challenge yourself, but it’s important to remember that there’s no growth without resistance.
In this episode, we explore what gets in the way of your growth, how to address it and what you can do to change course and move through the discomfort.

In this week's pod we sit down with Annie Osborne (@annietheosteo) to discuss all things Mindset. Timing couldn’t have been better as we’d just finished teaching module 1 of our MBO program all about “The Winning Mindset”. It was awesome getting to know Annie and all she’s been up to over these past few years. She’s kind, compassionate and on a mission to help as many people as she can break through mental blocks and live their true purpose. When you’re starting out in this business, it’s normal to be a little less confident when you are treating someone for the first time. And something we often see in new osteopaths is that they are trying to do too much in order to get results quickly or impress the patient. Unfortunately, this isn’t the best approach to a patient’s healing and it can lead you to have huge energy drains throughout the day.
In this episode, you’ll learn why doing less, actually leads to better results for the patient and ultimately, makes you a better therapist.

Unfortunately, a common perception may be that choosing you as a therapist is a luxury. It is our job as Osteopaths to educate, engage and empower your community to view Osteopathy as a necessity and not a luxury.
Osteopathic care is an integral part of the wellness paradigm and your job is to make sure they see it. They value what it is you do and how you can help them.
The MBO opens up for enrollment this week, make sure to get on the waitlist so you don't miss launch day:

A waiting list practice will happen as a result of you really connecting with your community, finding the people that you are meant to serve, and then getting in front of them, using empathy, kindness and some simple communication skills.

We wanted a way to stay connected with other osteopaths and share the business skills we had developed for a combined 57 years between the three of us.
Now, with 99 episodes out in the world, the team gets together to celebrate our 100th episode and share some behind-the-scenes moments and what we have in store for you next!

How can you expect to run a successful and profitable business if you don’t look at your numbers?
Many health practitioners, including osteopaths, don’t do this. Our formal education didn’t include ANY courses on business and/or clinic management, a massive omission! We have learned through discussions with dozens of practitioners that the #1 reason practitioners don’t look at their numbers is that they don’t know where to look.
In this episode, we share the simple process we used to look at our numbers and build our practice.

The way you think about things and have specific intent on things is so important in the success of whatever you are doing whether it’s your business or personal life.
Awareness is the ultimate weapon in correcting old learnt behaviour. The key to breaking this hardwired program is to replace it with a new one. To do this we need to explore who we truly are and how we want to assist others in their healing process.

To script or not to script? That is the question we answer in today’s episode of The Osteo Connection.
A first impression is a lasting one. If a patient does not feel a connection with you, they are less likely to come back and continue their treatment. This is why we follow a certain protocol (which we’ve shared in past episodes). But not all patients are the same, you need to put yourself in your patient’s shoes and connect with the person in front of you. Communicate with them where they are, let them know how you can help them and their specific ailment, make sure to address their concerns and explain what their treatment timeline and the process should look like so they are always leaving your office unsure of what they need to do next.
Listen in to this episode as we share some of the tips and tools we use for making a connection with new patients.

Don't be scared, make it happen! – A huge takeaway from this week’s guest, Dave Morrow, M.A., BSc., BEd., CD.
In this final segment of our Marketing Conversations Series, Dave shares his incredible story and reminds us that when your gut is telling you that you should do something, just get out there and do it. Let go of the need for perfection or the fear of starting something new and just lean in. Nothing will be perfect and everything takes practice.
About Dave Morrow, M.A., BSc., BEd., CD
Dave Morrow is a former infantry officer with the Canadian Armed Forces and served as a civil affairs officer in Afghanistan. He grew up in the Army, it taught him the valuable lessons of gruelling hard work, the importance of a solid team, how to get shit done when the chips are down and how to motivate people in the worst of situations.
He returned from Afghanistan injured and without a clear sense of direction. He fell back on his education and launched himself into a teaching career he hated. He neglected his back injury and became incapable of even lifting up his newborn son. His marriage was hurting and life was spinning out of control. He had to make a change.
Dave hired a coach and worked every day on the basics. He learned he wasn’t broken, he just needed to put in the work to fix what had been neglected over 15 years of ruck marches and long-range patrols. This experience with his coach had a profound effect on him and it inspired him to do the same for his fellow sheepdog community. Train Hard, Fight Easy
Dave has been teaching his clients to safely and effectively get into the shape they want since 2012. Long-term goal setting, habit development and sustainable coaching practices will yield far superior results in the long run. He’s a teacher by trade; he loves teaching but he loves seeing people learn even more. He prides himself in clients never having to return to him after learning how to train, eat and take care of themselves properly for the rest of their lives.

Today, we kick off our Marketing Conversations series with guest expert Michèle Boileau-Barmash.
Michèle gives the low down on the importance of being active on LinkedIn, how to use Instagram to build your know-like-trust factor and a secret asset you likely didn’t know you had...your patients!
About Michèle Boileau-Barmash
Michèle Boileau-Barmash is a creative connector with an exceptional talent for telling powerful stories. Fueled by the belief that meaning creates compelling engagement, her work is a striking balance of cutting-edge ideas and social relevance.
Prior to launching her agency, Twenty6, Michèle worked at L’Oreal, has also managed clients on the agency side such as Huda Beauty, Jack Black, Sephora, Michael Kors, John Frieda and numerous brands at Procter and Gamble and General Mills. She was the Head of Global Public Relations for Reebok and worked alongside talent such as Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Zoe Kravitz, Ariana Grande, Gigi Hadid and Conor McGregor, to name a few. She also launched and managed the brand's largest fashion collaboration with Victoria Beckham herself and her namesake fashion label. Most recently she was Head of Global Communications for Mackage.
Though her network is coveted and her influence is in demand, you wouldn’t know it. Without pretense, she brings her approachable aura, open-hearted sincerity, signature charm, and infinite inspiration to all she does. Multi-faceted, engaging, real – just like her projects. She loves sports and working out (ahem, she played US college hockey), a really good playlist, a nice glass of tequila and most importantly, her bulldog, Loulou.
