Today’s episode is a very special one. I sat down in person with Saeed Amidi, the Founder and CEO of Plug & Play. This is a global open innovation platform with a unique business model. I’ve been watching, learning, and taking inspiration from Plug and Play as I build the InPeak Network.
Saeed and I spoke about my upcoming documentary, centred around Saudi Arabia’s tech emergence. Saeed’s journey in Silicon Valley is both inspiring and intriguing and stands as a testament to being in the right place at the right time and dreaming big. With Saudi’s rise to prominence in the technology scene, we’re once again at the start of something big happening that we have an opportunity to be a part of.
Tune in to hear Saeed’s journey during the rise of Silicon Valley, and Saudi Arabia’s open-minded approach to becoming the next big tech hub.

If you are wondering how to get in front of family offices, this is an episode you don’t want to miss as it gives you insights into how they operate. I couldn’t think of a better duo to discuss this topic, especially with their New York event coming up in just a few days from the 10th to the 11th of October.

During our conversation, we delved into various topics, including navigating the challenges of building through the bear market and much more. I hope you find this discussion as captivating as I did!

She is also the Founder & CEO of CyberBrokers, a series of 10,001 NFT collectables that provide membership and access to metaversal experiences. I’ve been a member of PROOF since shortly after I minted my Moonbird and it’s been fascinating watching Kevin and the team build the community from the ground up.
In this conversation, I took the opportunity to pick Kevin’s brain on web3 business models and essentially treated this podcast as a consultation session that many entrepreneurs in the Web3 space will really benefit from.

My guest on today’s podcast is Donald Hoffman, a cognitive psychologist and popular science author, and a professor of Cognitive Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. Donald is probably best known for his TED Talk and popular Book, The Case Against Reality.
Many of you probably know that I’m deeply interested in understanding the nature of reality and its relationship with technology. In particular, my hunch is that we may be living in a simulation but there is so much more nuance to that hunch that I don’t want to just throw it out there that simply.
Perhaps it’s better if I say less and let you listen to this conversation with Donald Hoffman for yourself.

My guest on today’s podcast is Jimmy Song, Bitcoin Developer, Educator and Entrepreneur and one of the most popular personalities in the bitcoin community. I had listened to Jimmy on many podcasts and I knew that he was really against the rest of the crypto space, including Ethereum, and the whole concept of Web3. Naturally, I really wanted to talk to him as there is nothing better than being able to have a dialogue with people who hold different views from yours.
I have to say that this was a tough conversation because Jimmy and I disagree on a lot of things. I see Blockchain technology as interesting and revolutionary in itself with application to many other things beyond bitcoin. Jimmy not only disagrees with me, but he also tends to be rather hostile towards everything Web3 to a point that he calls the whole space a scam and immoral.
I’m grateful to Jimmy for sharing his time and insights with me even though our perspectives deeply differ.

My guest on today’s podcast is Lane Rettig, a former Ethereum Core Developer and now a Core Developer for Spacemesh.
I have previously had Tim Beiko on my podcast who runs the core protocol meetings for Ethereum. So I wanted to have the perspective of someone who has now left Ethereum too.
As someone heavily invested in the Web3 and NFT space and the Ethereum ecosystem, I’m always interested in hearing other viewpoints to make sure I’m not living in an echo chamber and I share these conversations with you you can also listen and decide for yourself.

My guest on today’s show is Avery Akkineni, President of Vayner3. Avery works alongside Gary Vaynerchuk on all things NFTs, Web 3 and immersive digital experiences.
Some of you may know that I produced and directed a documentary called The Millennial Disruption in 2017-18 that featured Gary and it went on to win several international awards. At the end of that documentary, I mentioned to brands and entrepreneurs that if they couldn’t come to terms with Social Media at the time, they have little chance of succeeding when Blockchain technology arrives.
Well, that technology is here now and Gary Vaynerchuk and his team are always ahead of the curve and succeeding in the NFT space. Avery shares some excellent insights with us in this interview on the future of NFTs and Web3’s mainstream adoption.

I met Sebastián on the PROOF Collective discord and when we started to talk about generative art I decided to invite him on the podcast and introduce him to my audience.
I really enjoyed this conversation and can truly say that I learned a lot about generative art from an artist’s viewpoint rather than a business viewpoint.

Now the interesting thing about this interview is that, as shocking as it may sound, I’ve never played video games in my life. And yet I have some philosophical views on gaming and what it means for the future of Web3 and this new era of emerging technologies that we are entering.
This was a pretty fascinating conversation that I think you will enjoy whether you like gaming or not.

My guest on today’s podcast is Ryan Carson, former COO of PROOF Collective and someone who has been deeply involved in the WEB3 space from the early days before creating his own NFT Venture Fund, 121G.
I first learned about Ryan when I won the raffle to mint a Moonbird. He was active in the Moonbirds' Discord and Twitter and came into the ladybirds' channel and spoke to us. He was very attentive, kind and well-spoken. Later when he left PROOF to start his own venture I noticed that he was under a lot of scrutiny from the NFT community.
People seem to analyse Ryan’s every move and put, in my opinion, disproportionate weight on whatever he does and says. So I wanted to talk to him myself and get to know him better and ask some of the common questions that the community had for him.

Gaming is an area that I know very little about but as we enter the Metaverse, it’s becoming ever more important and I especially want to better understand how blockchain and decentralization will play a role in its future evolution.

Travis and I spoke about a number of topics to do with the Web3 space and we also touched upon something that occupies my mind a lot, which I never used to talk about publicly but I’ve recently felt more comfortable talking about it. That is whether we are living in a simulation and if so what does this have to do with the metaverse and Web3.

My guest on today’s episode of the Somi Arian Podcast is the Co-Founder & CIO of Ikiguy Asset Management, Travis Kling. Travis is a great leader in the Web3 space and he regularly appears on a number of podcasts that I often listen to, including the Pomp Podcast, What Bitcoin Did and Coin Desk.
It was a truly fascinating and insightful conversation that you don’t want to miss.

In today’s episode of the Somi Arian Podcast, we have two guests!
Tim Beiko runs the core protocol meetings for Ethereum and coordinates some of the most important movements as Ethereum advances towards the merge. The merge is when Ethereum transitions from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake, known as the most significant protocol change in history. I have a video on YouTube where I’ve explained these concepts, so be sure to check them out.
My second guest, or rather a co-host and a guest, is Tara Annison, Head of Technical Crypto Advisory at Elliptic, who has been on a couple of previous episodes. Tara is super knowledgeable about the technical aspects of Blockchain technology and she follows the merge very closely. She also gives us the Bitcoiner’s perspective on the most recent blockchain and crypto movements.
I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation and I’m sure you will too.
Outline
00:00 Intro
03:15 Tim’s “t-shirt story” & journey into Ethereum
10:47 “It is only worth starting a business is if you can do it better than the top 1%”
13:07 Bitcoin vs Ethereum
15:29 The Merge and Core Devs Robstein progress
22:56 Can this test be simulated?
25:20 Protecting Ethereum against other people throwing in extra hash rate
27:48 Is Ethereum going from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake less censorship resistant?
33:53 Bitcoiner’s perspective
42:38 Decentralization = decorrelated failures & swiss cheese
45:23 Maximal Extractable Value (MEV)
51:00 What really is blockchain? Some see it as a big company, some as the second internet
54:42 How long will it take until Ethereum gets disrupted comparing it to Web 2

Today’s podcast is a superfun episode where I interview the two lovely community managers of Moonbirds, a fantastic NFT community that I managed to mint. I am absolutely thrilled to be part of this great community and I asked the two ladies who run their discord server Stevey and SodaPop, to join me for a chat.
We discuss why they created a space for the ladybirds on the server and why most female-led projects struggle to gain as much traction as some of the other blue chips in the NFT space.
I also showed them FemPeak’s NFTs (Fempeakers) and brainstormed what we are planning to do to encourage men to support the project and build allyship.

02:08 Advantages of being a female-led all-inclusive platform
03:55 Stevey and SodaPop on the Moonbirds community
08:40 Where did the idea of Ladybirds come from?
15:07 SodaPop’s journey into NFT’s and building a friendly community
19:40 The importance of collaboration in the NFT space
29:07 Marketing your NFT project

Abigail Bryant Spolar is the Global Customer Success Leader for Notabene, a Crypto Compliance company doing important work in the industry as experts in crypto regulations.
Today’s episode of the Somi Arian Podcast is a spontaneous one! Abi and I were having a meeting about some educational sessions that she was going to deliver on the FemPeak platform and the conversation was so interesting that we decided to press record and turn it into a podcast. I think neither of us were quite camera ready but the conversation took precedence.

One of the most impressive entrepreneurs that we recently featured on FemPeak is Anja Leissner, Founder and Head of R&D at Stockeld Dreamer. She has a fascinating journey as a health enthusiast, inventor, and innovator. For the past few years, Anja has dedicated her life to creating vegan cheese and now their company has just closed their Series A investment round.
I really enjoyed this conversation with Anja, where we discuss entrepreneurship with a little bit of cheese thrown in the mix.
